ATR Modular EASA Frozen ATPL Programme
OVERVIEW:
The EASA frozen ATPL has many advantages for the individual as well as for potential sponsors.
The frozen ATPL came in to being under JAR (Joint Aviation Requirements) for two reasons:
- The difficulty pilots faced finding sufficient work opportunities in Europe, unlike the in the USA, to obtain the hours necessary to meet ATPL requirements and;
- The need to have First Officers with the technical knowledge to operate modern Multi-Crew Commercial Aircraft above 5 700 kg.
- Employers do not need to make provision for their First Officers to take time off or sponsor them to undertake ATPL licensing exams and tests at a later stage.
JAR subscriber countries in Europe proposed and implemented the frozen APTL (fATPL) scheme for JAR – EASA Licensing. There are many advantages as the route to obtaining the ATPL is fairly rapid once a pilot starts flying with a carrier and on obtaining the requisite hours the license holder merely submits logbooks and an application for an ATPL with no further examination or tests being required. Furthermore as a mandatory requirement for fATPL issue the candidate must have completed an approved Multi- Crew Cooperation Course (MCC) before the license can be validated as such – the distinct advantage is that the candidate has firm foundation to build on when progressing to a type rating. Prospective employers can be reasonably assured that the prospective employee will have good chance of completing a type rating with success.
ATR MODULAR fATPL PROGRAMME.
Our programme has many distinct advantages to both to sponsors and the self-sponsored. These are:
- A rigorous pre-selection will be in place to ensure that prospective pilots are suited for a professional pilot career.
- Detailed training records and reports will be available to sponsors and to prospective employers – this has become the norm in Europe where carriers request candidates training records from their training providers.
- Financial protection to both sponsors and the self-sponsored is inherent in the programme by ensuring that each module is self-contained as individual packages and that progression to further stages cannot be done unless the candidate has successfully completed the preceding module.
- Where an individual is found not to be making the required completion standards, addition training will be available and the Head of Training and the sponsor will agree on the amount of extra training required; on the proviso that the candidate has applied him/herself well during the training up to date and that a few hours of additional training will bring the candidate up to the required standard.
- On the completion of each module a course report will be generated and be made available to the candidate and to sponsors. These will form part of the candidate’s portfolio to supplement their CV’s and job application. When required Aviation Training Resources (ATR) already has in place provision to assist candidates with CV preparation and Airline Job Interview coaching.
Training Locations:
Training will take place with our training partners in South Africa and the UK. ATR and our affiliates in the programme will sponsor Visa applications in both counties.
THE ATR FLIGHT PLAN:
Note: There will be course breaks incorporated, where appropriate and supplementary training will take place if necessary in lieu of these if required.
